Daniel Day-Lewis to play Lincoln

If there has ever been any better casting than this, I've never seen it. See the story in the following link about Daniel Day-Lewis signing to play Abraham Lincoln in the maybe/someday coming movie from Steven Spielberg. Have been seeing info on this one for so many years, I was convinced it wasn't going to happen.

Pixar's Lee Unkrich on "Toy Story 3"

Having been a fan of Pixar from the beginning, I am always excited to hear or read about the creative process from these guys. For a company that is on an unprecedented winning streak, they don't seem to be losing any quality with each successive film, and I am always curious as to how they pull it off. While there is no real magical answer, it is fun to listen to them talk about what they love doing.

Click on the following link to listen to a great piece of audio from Lee Unkrich (director) and Michael Arndt (screenwriter) discussing some of their creativity on Toy Story 3 at NPR's website.

Johnny Depp as new Thin Man?

You know, sometimes I think certain remakes are a good idea, especially if the movie is ripe for an updating. Then there are other movies that should probably be left alone, and I think the old William Powell starrer The Thin Man is one of them. Oh well, we know that Hollywood can never leave a good script alone until they've managed to pretty much ruin it for everybody. See the story of Depp's possibility of starring in the remake here at Empire Online.

R. I. P. Barbara Billingsley

Have to admit I'd never thought this one would happen, but the time has come to say goodbye to everyone's favorite mother and "jive" talker as Barbara Billingsley dies at 94.

10 things you didn't know about The Empire Strikes Back

Here's a link to the "10 Things..." article at the io9 website. A couple of things are revealed that show this book to be a must have for any Star Wars fan. While some of the material may be a rehash, there's enough new info to make it well worth the purchase price. I can hear fans and collectors salivating now.

R.I.P. Solomon Burke

If you've never heard Burke's early

works, you owe it to yourself to give them a listen. His compositions, structure, and overall music ability were, in my opinion, well beyond what other early rock n' roll and R&B acts were. Always a joy to listen and sing to.

Sadly, he passed this last weekend from an unconfirmed heart attack.

Why 3-D is already dying

Here follows a halfway decent article on the ridiculousness of the proliferation of 3-D movies being released this summer.

What should Apple do with their $40 Billion?

Isn't it interesting that when a company makes a high quality product, makes a ton of revenue, and shows the world they are running the business with extreme efficiency & profitability, that there is always someone out there that can tell such a company how to do it better?

Well, with Apple sitting on cash reserves of nearly $40 billion, a current post on Bloomberg BusinessWeek is loaded with ideas of what Apple should do with their cash, as well as a few business ideas.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to take notes on Apple's current formula for success instead of coming up with ways for them to waste their money?

Just asking.

From the files of - What the %*$!..?

It has just come to my attention that producer/actor Tom Cruise has hired famed animation director Brad Bird to direct the fourth installment of Mission: Impossible. While I do think The Incredibles is probably one of the better action movies out there, this news still comes as quite a shock. It will definitely be interesting to see how this one develops.

The Last Airbender - New Trailer

I could care less that they decided to finish The Last Airbender in 3D, but this looks absolutely awesome. Check out the trailer here.

Metropolis re-released

Silent film fans rejoice. What is often considered by many to be the greatest and most influential silent film, Metropolis(imdb), is being released to theaters this month with 25 minutes of added footage. Can't imagine where any usable cuts from a film that old could have been found, but I'm sure it is worth the viewing. Check out the trailer on the following link.

Fox 75th Anniversary Promotion

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, 20th Century Fox has put together a bunch of limited edition triple feature DVD's that might just be worth your while. There are plenty of good classic movies to choose from, and also a chance to win $75,000. Sounds good to me.

Time Finally Runs Out on 24

There may have been very little about this show that ran realistically, but that never stopped it from being the adrenaline rush of fun that it was supposed to be. I am sad to see it go, but eight seasons is a good run.

Long live Jack Bauer!

The Official OscarWatch Precursor Tally

While I am one of those

that usually avoids the Academy Awards, the news that The Hurt Locker (trailer) is leading the pack of critics choice for best movie of 2009 is just the sort of thing to make me go against my own stance.

EW.com has put together of list of critical award winners, giving us an idea of what the AA's may look like when the nominations are announced. Check it out on the following link.
